Cowboys & Aliens

We went to see a movie last night after our date night at the world famous Grimaldi's Pizza in The Woodlands. Literally nothing was playing that we hadn't already seen, so we settled for Cowboys & Aliens .  Really the only reason I agreed to see it was because Cameron said that if it was terrible we would walk out. (I should have held him to his word!) Moral of the story: Cameron and I are realizing more and more that we are Cowboys & Aliens. No, no, not literally... although Cameron's Booster name IS Cowboy Cameron...but we are SO, so different. Although this is probably obvious to most, it sometimes can create some friction...

Just like the movie: 10 minutes in, and I'm ready to get up and leave (or fall asleep)....but Cameron is really intrigued by the idea behind it. It's stupid and boring to me; Cameron thinks the aliens are cool.  This is a very basic example of how different we are, but it comes up in different ways ALL the time. We are learning, however, to be thankful for these differences.  If Cameron was as clean-freak as I am, neither of us would ever take a break and sit down from doing laundry or dishes. If I was as much of a "quick start" as Cameron, we might never stop to read the directions or think things through all the way before jumping in head first. We are learning  more and more how our differences compliment each other and are a good thing, rather than an annoying thing.

This week is a big one for us! Tomorrow is the first day of school and my first day at Alexander. Cameron and Booster start their first "gig" as we're calling it now, on Wednesday. We are really thankful that the Lord is continuing to provide for us in Houston in many ways and are excited to see what all this school year will hold.

God is good!

What a crazy and awesome week! Coming away with one thing we know for sure: God is good!

Atlanta: Had a great time with the entire Team Texas family. We got to hear from some great speakers, get to know the newest additions to Booster, and learn about how we are all wired differently to serve specific purposes. Needless to say, Cameron and I are opposite ends of the spectrum in many ways. Sometimes it creates friction...but mostly it is a blessing because we compliment each other so well. The last night, at the awards banquet, Team Texas was very well represented. A few highlights: our very own Jake Lacy is now the newest Area Leader heading up Team Houston and David Brannen is the newest Team Leader. God is definitely showing favor on us already.

Also, the group of guys that started Booster when Cameron did was honored with a special gift...

Yes, those are real swords. Too heavy for me to pick up with one hand! Hopefully that will take the place of the gun Cameron's been wanting to get to protect us here in the dangerous city of Cypress.

In other news, I had my first job interview for a teaching position this morning (after lots of preparation help and encouragement from Cameron). I got a call shortly afterward from the principal who offered me the 3rd Grade Reading/Social Studies position. Hallelujah-SUCH an answered prayer. Thank you to everyone who was praying for that! God is SO so good.

Update

I realize I haven't blogged in about a week now. My apologies...I'm still new at this.
Highlights from the past week:

These cuties (Ryan and Becca) are engaged! We got to go to a little engagement party for them Friday night and then see some family on Saturday before heading back to Cypress.

3AM Monday-Cameron left for Atlanta. Booster U is apparently going very well so far and we're excited about the 3 new team members that will be here in Houston with us this year. This is the first time Cameron and I have been apart overnight since we got married. I'm handling it pretty well I might say (except for the fact that I have to make my own coffee in the mornings...not fun.)

I have also been letting go of my pride and driving school to school trying to find a job. Prayers in this area would be greatly appreciated! When Cameron heard what I was doing, he sent me these really pretty flowers and had them delivered yesterday afternoon!  Major props Cameron!!!

So my mom and sisters came to stay with me as my first overnight guests in the new apartment! We ventured out and shopped Memorial City Mall till we dropped. (Don't worry Cameron...I only used gift cards!) In the food court at snack time, I looked up and saw a little treasure above the Chick-fil-A sign. See if you can find it:

Yes ladies & gentlemen...Franklin, Texas made the map.
They probably have no idea the greatness that came from the tiny Texas city.

Date Day

Over ice cream the other night celebrating our one-month of marriage, Cameron and I decided we should have 1 date night a week (with a budget) and we can take turns planning it out. (Actually, this wasn't my idea. I stole it from someone and now I can't even remember who it was...sorry if it was you!)
So, since our days have been pretty open and our nights this week are dwindling, Cameron woke me up yesterday with a brilliant idea: date DAY! He planned the entire day with fun things for us to do together, but wouldn't tell me what we were doing until we got to each place.

Destination #1                                               Houston Aquarium!
Looking at each different type of fish and lizard and bird and snake, we were reminded of the Lord's creativity in designing each one of them. They are all so intricately designed, just like us! After walking through the exhibits, we rode the ferris wheel and had a great view of our new city's downtown area.

Destination #2                                    The Heritage Society Museum
Here we watched a 12 minute VHS about the history of Houston. Talk about hi-def!

Destination #3                                        Houston Public Library

Here we searched for our Adventures in Odyssey cd's with no luck. And...add another "first" to our list...Cameron got his first ever, very own... LIBRARY CARD! Only in Houston they're called "PowerCards".
                                                                            He's excited!

Destination #4                                                   Hub Cap Grill

Supposedly the best burgers in the city! We made a lunch stop here to check it out for ourselves.

The absolutely were! And the drinks are all in bottles or cans...so naturally I got a bottle of root beer and Cameron got his Dr. Pepper. (Although in the picture he had to pose with my root beer because by the time our burgers came, his dp was long gone.)

Destination # 5
For destination #5, we got high. I mean realllyyyyy high.
High enough to see all of downtown Houston from the tallest building in the city. We went up to the 60th story of the JP Morgan/Chase Tower: the tallest 5-sided building in the world. This made our ferris wheel view seem so...boring. (Although we still liked it and I even got a little scared.)

So there you have it. Our date day summed up: a walking tour of downtown Houston. They say Houston summers are hotter than Dallas and I used to not really believe them, but wow. It is every bit true. The humidity makes it feel like a million degrees and rising. But we did get some cloud coverage there for a while and we had fun with it! On the way home, Cameron said he had one more thing planned. As he turned into the Galleria parking lot, I just knew I had guessed it. Cheesecake Factory...duh.
Until we walked into the Apple Store and he asked if I wanted a new macbook. So long 1995 Dell laptop. You've been good to me.

So that's why I didn't blog about our day last night. I was too busy getting acquainted with this thing.

We might have gone over the date budget...just a little.

Introducing: Mr. & Mrs. Cameron Johnson to the blogosphere

Howdy.
Well, we did it. Our very first blog. There have been lots of "first's" for us lately, so naturally blogging needed to be one of them. One month and one day ago, we got married (for the first time), went to Mexico and enjoyed our first Couple's Massage, journeyed on the rough seas on our first sailing trip, then settled into our first apartment in the lovely city of Cypress, Texas. But let's back up a little.

Here's us...
I'm Megan, the one on the left. And that's my husband of one month and a day, Cameron.
We met in a little place we like to call Aggieland. Two and half years later, stood across from each other in Dallas, Texas and said our vows. We are now embarking on the journey of a lifetime following God's plan for our lives in Houston as a married couple. In our free time we will try to update you on the in's and out's of our lives so you can keep up with the Johnson's.
